Paksos pripada grupi Jonskih ostrva, koja se prostiru duž istočne obale Jonskog mora. Zajedno sa obližnjim i manjim Antipaksosom čini zasebnu grčku opštinu u blizini Krfa.
Poznato još i kao Paksi ili Paksoi, ovo ostrvo za sada još nije masovno turistički eksploatisano, a do njega se lako stiže. Sa 15km udaljenog Krfa tokom sezone nekoliko puta dnevno saobraćaju putnički trajekti (vožnja traje oko 90 minuta), dok je nekoliko puta sedmično organizovan i prijevoz automobila.
Paksos je previše mali da bi mogao da prihvati putnike sa velikih kruzera, a takođe nema mnogo zabavnih sadržaja. Može se reći da je zadržao stari šarm i da se i dalje može opisati kao idilično grčko ostrvo.
Hotela, vila i apartmana ima za svačiji džep, plaže su tihe, priroda divlja i opija, hrana je tradicionalna i ukusna – sa cjenovnim spektrom od 15 do 50 eura za ručak.
Sa površinom od tek 25km2 i oko 2.000 stanovnika, na ostrvu se izdvajaju tri sela: Gajos, Lakka i Longos. Gajos je glavna luka i ovdje su usidreni komercijalni brodići i pristaju trajekti sa Krfa. Ovdje se takođe nalazi najveći broj restorana, kafea i radnji. Samo u jednoj ulici koja izlazi na luku ima više od 20 restorana sa prelijepim terasama koje gledaju na more.

Laka
Na sjeveru ostrva smještena je mala, ali kompaktna Laka. Selo ima dvije glavne plaže i nekoliko manjih do kojih se može stići samo pješice. Na dva seoska trgića redaju se restorani, kafei i radnjice. Tu možete rentirati i opremu za vodene sportove ili unajmiti instruktora za ronjenje.

Longos
Najmanje od tri sela, Longos, može se pohvaliti najljepšim plažama, ali i najboljim restoranima na ostrvu. Među aktivnostima, naročito je popularan windsurfing, a ovo mjestašce je posebno romantično noću, kada se uključe brojne svjetiljke.
Antipaksos
Petnaestominutna vožnja brodićem iz Gajosa vodi vas do malenog idiličnog Antipaksosa, sa plažom od bijelog pijeska i besprijekorno čistom tirkiznom vodom. Idealna je destinacija za cjelodnevni izlet, na kome ćete za ručak jesti svježe ulovljene jastoge ili ribu.

Muzički festival
Svakog ljeta već 30 godina, od posljednje sedmice juna do prve sedmice septembra, na Paksosu se održava muziki festival. Najveći kulturni događaj na ostrvu privlači izvođače iz cijelog svijeta, a program je bogat i obuhvata više tema. Serija koncerata Fireflies predstavlja mlade pijaniste i gitariste sa najboljih grčkih i italijanskih konzervatorijuma. Posljednjih godina festival se proširio na vizuelne prezentacije i izložbe fotografija, keramike, slika i nakita. U okviru festivala organizuju se vođeni obilasci, sa fokusom na istorijskom naslijeđu i prirodnim ljepotama Paksosa.

Trajekti saobraćaju od maja do kraja oktobra, i tokom tog perioda Paksos je otvoren za turiste. Najudarniji mjeseci su juni i juli, kada su i „gužve“ najveće.
Do luke iz koje trajekti polaze sa aerodroma na Krfu trebaće vam taksi. Vožnja traje desetak minuta, a cijena se kreće od 10 do 15 eura. Cijena karte za trajekt je nešto preko 10 eura po osobi.
Paksos je prilično brdovit, pa ukoliko planirate šetnje i istraživanje ostrva, spakujte udobnu obuću kao što su patike. Takođe, od preko 20 plaža, mnoge su stjenovite i šljunkovite, i nisu baš sve lako dostupne.
