Jedna od najvećih umjetnica svijeta bila je svakako meksička slikarka Frida Kalo. Njeno kreativno stvaralaštvo počelo je i dostiglo vrhunac upravo u ovoj kući.
La Casa Azul, ili Plavu kuću, sagradio je Fridin otac 1904. godine, u mjestu Kajoakan, predgrađu Meksiko Sitija.
Tri godine kasnije (1907.) u njoj je rođena Frida, djevojčica zagasite crne kose, divljih smeđih očiju, nemirnog i vedrog duha.
Nakon što se udala za Dijega Riveru, uticajnog slikara, Frida Kalo je živjela na nekoliko različitih lokacija u Meksiko Sitiju, da bi se uvijek vraćala svom roditeljskom domu, u kome je i umrla 1954. godine.
Četiri godine kasnije (1958.) njena „plava kuća“ je pretvorena u muzej, i izgleda gotovo isto kao u trenucima njene smrti, evocirajući Fridinu burnu vezu sa Riverom i veliki dio strasti koje su je vodile tokom života.

Tu su portreti njenih junaka – Lenjin i Mao vise iznad kreveta, dok njena odjeća visi u ormaru. Njena umjetnička kolekcija ispunjava zidove, Fridina invalidska kolica su tu, kao i nedovršeni Staljinov portret i brdo drvenog posuđa u kom je slikarka pravila ukusne specijalitete.
Čak je i Fridin pepeo sačuvan u urni koja se nalazi u muzeju.
